Willard Traub, a professional photographer in the Boston metro area and a BFS patient, chronicled his journey of cancer diagnosis, bone marrow transplant, and recovery in a series of photographs and poems that successfully capture his reflections of hope and healing. The Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham, Massachusetts, is pleased to host an exhibit of his photographs entitled Recovery. Illness The exhibit will be displayed from September 11 until November 6. An opening event will be held on the evening of Saturday, September 17, from 6pm to 8pm, followed by a poetry reading by Willard Traub the next day on September 18 at 1pm.
In November 2005, while awaiting his bone marrow transplant, Willard began visualizing this project with the hopes that it would not only help him gain some control over his cancer treatment and recovery, but also encourage others who face life-changing events to use their personal talents to bring clarity and healing to their own experiences. Through the lens of his camera, Willard captured fleeting images that document both his hospital stay and the new-found pleasures that he re-discovered in the simple moments of his everyday life upon returning home. He has embellished these images with his personal writings along with those by medical and art professionals to increase the emotional depth and impact of this photographic collection.
Willard hopes that his story, told through these images and writings, will serve as a source of healing, connection, and sharing with others who have traveled or will travel a similar path in their lives.
